What is a Computer?
A Computer is an electronic device capable of manipulating numbers and symbols under the control of a set of instructions known as a computer program. A computer program directs the computer to solve a particular problem and display results. Computer programs are written using programming languages like BASIC, FORTRAN, COBOL, PASCAL, ALGOL and so on.
Computer Hardware and Software
A computer basically consists of electronic components that are supported by electrical devices and mechanical systems. All those electronic, electrical and mechanical components used in a computer are called Computer Hardware.
Computer Hardware includes all the physical parts of a computer, such as a keyboard, mouse, monitor, central processing unit (CPU), motherboard, computer data storage, speaker, graphics card, sound card.
Computer hardware components are actuated and controlled with the help of computer programs called Computer Software.
Types of Software
Application Software Application Softwares are the program or group of programs used to solve specific problems or tasks. Application Software is designed for end-user, so it’s also known as the end-user program. Application software includes an accounting application, an aeronautical flight simulator, a railway reservation application, a word processor, a spreadsheet, a media player, a file viewer, a photo editor or a web browser.
The system software is the program or group of programs that used to handle the computer hardware and execute the application programs. System software includes operating systems like Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Unix, Ubuntu, computational science software, industrial automation, and service application software.
